‘Make your paths known to me, Lord teach me your ways. Lead me by your faithfulness, and teach me, for you are God my Saviour.’

Hymn 132 Immortal, invisible God only wise

Collect

‘Lord teach me your ways…’ Gracious Father this is the great cry of our hearts; for all your ways are pleasant and all your paths are peace. Father our way is seeking your favour by endeavouring to fulfil all your commands. Your way is that we rst in Christ and allow Him be our Saviour. Our way is to striveo do what is right be moral upright citizens, faithful soldiers. Your way is to recreate the likeness of your Son within our hearts. Our way is to stand apart and pass judgement upon others. Your way is that we learn to forgive as we have been forgiven. Lord in your mercy teach us your ways. Amen.

Our Father who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy Kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven;

give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors;

and lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil, For thine is the Kingdom

the Power and the Glory forever; Amen.

Hymn 251 I the Lord of sea and sky

Prayer of Approach

Great God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit there has ever been a time when you were not; forever the Father has known and loved the Son and the Spirit, the Son has known and loved the Father and Spirit and the Spirit has known and loved the Father and the Son. In eternity long after the stars, planets and every living being has been recreated and your saints rejoice in the New Jerusalem the Father will continue to know and love the Son and the Spirit, the Son will continue to rejoice in the Father and Spirit and the Spirit will continue to take pleasure in serving and honouring the Son and the Father

Gracious God, most gloriously and wonderfully in the life and ministry of Christ Jesus we are drawn into the love and delight the Father has in the Son and the Spirit, the love Son has for the Spirit and the Father and the love the Spirit has for the father and the Son.

Father as Jesus stood in the Jordan and was baptised by John, as He stood beside sinful men and women, as the filth that was washed from them settled Him, as in meekness and gentleness He took the first steps to the cross; you cried out in love ‘This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.’

As the Son rose from the Jordan, gracious Spirit you settled upon Him that He might know your presence on the journey, enabling His to pray to the Father, honouring His words as He healed the sick, granting authority to his preaching; His closest faithful friend.

Gracious Spirit as Christ suffered upon the cross, you entered the heat of the man who suffered at His side, you broke through the hardness of unbelief, you waded through the mire of his guilt, you opened his ears and his eyes to the wonder of Christ forgiving love, as Christ prayed ‘Father forgive them for they know not what they do.’ You awakened hope in that man’s soul; you taught Him to pray ‘Lord Jesus remember me when you come into your Kingdom. Christ Jesus honoured your work, He took the man’s sin, he opened the way to eternal life before Him, he honoured you as he said to the man, ‘You will be with me in paradise.’

Gracious Spirit be pleased to bring glory to the father and the Son by working within us we pray; through Christ our Lord; Amen.
